Using Artificial Intelligence in Law-MIKE
Imagine a doctor prescribing you medicines without knowing your complete medical history. Imagine an engineer constructing a bridge without any research about the proposed site. Imagine a lawyer defending his/her client without any research about the case. Imagine a pharmacist developing a new drug without proper research about its properties. What would be result of all these scenarios? Disaster!!!!
Research is a very crucial part of these professions, yet when it comes to innovation, there is not much. Let’s take legal research as an example. Lawyers have to spend a good number of hours in research. They have to very carefully research all the aspects of their current case and similar previous cases.
For this, they need to go through an insanely large amount of data and find the relevant data and then study it thoroughly. If even a single detail is left out, the case can take an entirely different turn. Yet, the tools used for legal research are very out-dated.
There are a few softwares available for legal research but they are not adequate and lawyers still need to spend a good amount of time and money on research. They also need to hire associates to assist them in research. This not only leads to a decrease in profits but also causes unnecessary wastage of time and overall inefficiency.
The Eureka Moment
A lawyer, an entrepreneur and a techie came together to provide a solution to lawyer’s plight. In what could be called a “eureka moment”, these three guys with diverse backgrounds decided to launch Mike, India’s first virtual legal associate for the lawyers. Mike is a tool that uses artificial intelligence to help lawyers in their research by dramatically reducing the time, the efforts and the money spent on the research. All a lawyer needs to do is to talk to Mike, like he/she would talk to a human associate. Mike, being artificially intelligent, provides an appropriate answer to the query made by the lawyer, after correctly understanding the intent and the context of the question.
Mike understands law and would act just as a human associate, only more efficient. With more use, Mike becomes smarter as it learns from every single use and unlike humans; Mike is able to retain whatever it learns without forgetting anything.
Mike was founded in November 2016 and has recently launched its first prototype. The team currently comprises of 3 co-founders.
Anshul Gupta, who is an entrepreneur, takes care of the marketing and product design at Mike. Ankit Yadav, an engineering student and a tech enthusiast, handles all the tech-related issues at Mike. Tushar Bhargava, a professional lawyer, takes care of the content and user base at Mike.
They work in a free and fun environment where they can share innovative ideas and work on them as a team. The team has launched Mike with a desire to revolutionize the legal research industry. They have created their current user base through referrals which helps them to develop a personal relation with their clients. They are working towards increasing their user base and launching a beta version of Mike.
